Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequency (PEMF)

What is PEMF?
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) Therapy is a non-invasive treatment method that uses electromagnetic fields to stimulate and enhance the body's natural healing processes.
At SOZO wellness, we strive to produce best in class delivery mechanisms to improve client outcomes. In this case, we utilize BEMER mats. BEMER stands for Bio-Electro-Magnetic-Energy-Regulation. BEMER is an FDA Class II cleared consumer medical device that, during an 8-minute session, sends a low-intensity pulsed electromagnetic field to the body to safely stimulate healthy muscles which temporarily enhances local blood flow, resulting in better disbursement of oxygen within the target tissues while supporting the elimination of CO2.
How PEMF works?
PEMF therapy involves the application of electromagnetic fields in pulses, rather than continuously. These fields pass through the body, penetrating tissues, muscles, and bones. The therapy uses low-frequency electromagnetic waves, typically ranging from 0-100 Hz, although some devices might go higher. The intensity (measured in gauss or Tesla) varies based on the device and intended application. The theory behind PEMF therapy is that these electromagnetic pulses can influence the electrical charge in cells. When cells are charged, they are thought to function more efficiently.
Benefits of PEMF
Pain management: PEMF is often used for reducing pain, particularly chronic pain from conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, or back pain.
Bone healing: It has been FDA-approved for enhancing bone healing in cases of non-union fractures and for bone density issues like osteoporosis.
Inflammation reduction: By modulating inflammatory cytokines, PEMF can help reduce inflammation in various conditions.
Recovery and performance: Athletes use PEMF for recovery post-exercise to reduce muscle soreness, improve recovery time, and potentially enhance performance by improving muscle function and endurance.
Wound healing: Studies suggest it can accelerate the healing of wounds, including diabetic ulcers.
Mental health: There's interest in using PEMF for mood disorders like depression, based on its effects on neurotransmitter activity.
Other benefits: Additional benefits from regular use of BEMER may include reduced stress, improved relaxation, optimized physical performance, enhanced muscle conditioning and physical fitness, and a better overall feeling of wellbeing.

You may be wondering…
-
When used correctly and following safety guidelines, PEMF therapy is very safe. However, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional, especially if you have specific medical conditions or you are pregnant.
-
Absolutely not. There has been a rapid increase in the number of PEMF devices on the market in recent years without good regulations for quality assurance. It is important to research the PEMF device you choose. This is why we only use the best in class BEMER mats here at SOZO wellness.
-
PEMF is typically delivered by lying on a mat or wrapping a PEMF device around a particular body part.
-
Results vary from person to person. Some people feel profound results in 1-3 sessions while others see results over time since the benefit of PEMF is cumulative for cellular regeneration.
