What is Red Light Therapy?
Red Light Therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, low-level light therapy (LLLT), or soft laser therapy, involves exposing the body to low levels of red or near-infrared light. Here at SOZO, we utilize the PlatinumLED BIOMAX lights. Their exclusive patent-pending R+|NIR+ multi-wave spectral output delivers the most advanced red light therapy available: Harnessing seven different red and infrared wavelengths of light for truly next level therapy for all applications.
How RLT works?
RLT uses light in the red and near-infrared spectrum, typically with wavelengths between 630 to 660 nanometers for red light and 810 to 850 nanometers for near-infrared light. The red light can penetrate the skin to a depth of about 1 to 2 millimeters, while near-infrared can go deeper, up to 5 millimeters. This allows the light to reach various layers of tissue. The light induces a cellular response. It is absorbed by the mitochondria in cells. This absorption increases ATP (adenosine triphosphate) production, which enhances cellular energy, increases blood circulation through vasodilation, reduces oxidative stress by lowering reactive oxygen species, stimulates angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels) and modulates inflammation by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines and increasing anti-inflammatory ones.
Benefits of RLT
Skin health
Anti-aging: Stimulates collagen production, reduces wrinkles, and improves skin tone and texture
Acne: Reduces inflammation and kills bacteria contributing to acne
Wound healing: Accelerates healing of cuts, burns, and surgical wounds by enhancing cell repair
Pain management
Used for chronic pain conditions like arthritis or fibromyalgia by reducing inflammation and promoting healing
Muscle recovery
Enhances muscle recovery after exercise, reduces muscle fatigue, and potentially improves performance by aiding in muscle repair and reducing lactic acid buildup
Hair growth
Stimulates hair follicles, potentially helping with hair loss conditions like androgenetic alopecia
Mental health
Studies suggest benefits in mood disorders like depression, possibly due to effects on neurotransmitter levels or improved brain function through increased blood flow
General wellness
Enhances overall cellular function, potentially boosting the immune system and aiding in detoxification

You may be wondering…
-
Yes, red light is very safe for almost all individuals since it is a naturally occurring light. Individuals with light sensitivity or who are taking medications such as tetracycline, doxycycline, hydrochlorothiazide and naproxen should consult with a healthcare professional.
-
Yes, clothing with reduce the penetration of Red Light treatment. Skin exposure and distance from the light source is important.
-
Unless you are light sensitive you will not need to wear goggles. In fact, recent studies have shown visual improvements from even small amounts of red light exposure.
-
One of the reason circadian rhythms are interrupted in today’s society is from not experiencing naturally occurring red light in the morning or twilight times. Strategically timed exposure to Red Light can facilitate re-setting circadian rhythms.
